Importing data from a script

Use the Data Transfer Wizard to run an SQL script into the selected database — for example, a script produced by exporting to a script.

To import from an SQL script:

  1. Choose Import/Export → Data Transfer Wizard from the main menu.
  2. On the Action page, select Import data into the selected database, then click Next.
  3. On the Source page, select SQL Script, then click Next.
  4. Choose the script file, then click Next.
  5. On the Encoding page, confirm the file's encoding — change it if the detected value is wrong — then click Next.
  6. On the Options page, choose whether to run the import inside a transaction, then click Next.
  7. Review your choices and click Next to start, or Back to adjust.
  8. Click Finish to close the wizard.

Tip

Importing inside a transaction means the whole script succeeds or fails as one unit — if any statement fails, nothing is left half-applied.

The script's own CREATE TABLE statements decide how the columns are declared, so there is no Column types choice to make — see How an imported table declares its columns.
