Editing table triggers

A trigger is a small piece of SQL that runs automatically whenever rows are inserted, updated, or deleted โ€” useful for keeping an audit log, maintaining a derived value, or enforcing a rule that goes beyond a simple constraint. Triggers are managed on the Triggers sub-tab of the Design tab.

To add a trigger:

  1. Click Add to open the trigger designer.

  2. Build the CREATE TRIGGER statement visually โ€” choose when it fires (before or after INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE), an optional condition, and the SQL it runs.

  3. Click OK.

To modify a trigger: select it, click Modify, adjust it, and click OK.

To delete a trigger: select it, click Delete, and confirm.

Tip

The designer writes standard SQL, so you can always review the generated CREATE TRIGGER statement โ€” a good way to learn the syntax while you build.
