Creating a view

A view stores a SELECT statement under a name, so you can query it as though it were a table.

To create a view:

  1. Choose Object โ†’ New View from the main menu, or New View from the tree panel's pop-up menu. This opens the view editor.

    The view editor The view editor

  2. Enter a name for the view and the SQL for its body (the SELECT that follows AS).

  3. To make a temporary view, tick Temporary view.
  4. Click Apply.

For example, a view that lists each order together with its customer's company name:

SELECT o.OrderNo, o.SaleDate, c.Company, o.ItemsTotal
FROM orders o
JOIN customer c ON c.CustNo = o.CustNo;

Tip

Give every output column a clear name with an AS alias, especially for computed columns or when two source columns share a name. This also avoids a known SQLite issue with unnamed view columns โ€” see Known Issues.

You can also build a view visually with the Query Builder, or turn an existing script into one โ€” see Creating a view from an SQL script.
