The Connections category of the Session Options dialog allows you to configure a session connectionA data path or circuit between two computers over a phone line, network cable, or other media..

The options of the Connection category of the Session Options dialog are based on the choice of Protocol In other words, if Telnet is selected as the protocol, the options displayed on the dialog will be different than if RLogin is selected. Below is a list of the protocols and options available in SecureFX.

The following options are displayed for all protocols.

Name

Enter a uniquely identifying name for this session.

Protocol (This option appears if only SecureFX is installed)

Select the protocol that you want to use for this session. SecureFX supports the following protocols: SFTP, FTPFTP is an abbreviation for the File Transfer Protocol; a protocol used to transfer files between computers on a TCP/IP network., FTP/TLS (implicit and explicit), HTTP, HTTPS, and SCP.

Protocol group (This group appears if SecureFX and SecureCRT® are both installed)

Select the protocol that you want to use for the stated type of session.

Terminal

Select the terminal emulation protocol that you want to use for this session. SecureCRT supports the following protocols: SSH1The first version of the SSH protocol which provides a way to encrypt network traffic between a client and a server., SSH2The second version of the SSH protocol which provides a way to encrypt network traffic between a client and a server, with a slightly different set of security features (including SFTP) than the SSH1 protocol provides., TelnetTelnet is a protocol that provides an interface for communications between clients and servers., Local Shell, and serial (COM).

File transfer

Select the file transfer protocol that you want to use for this session. SecureFX supports the following protocols: SFTP, FTP, FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, and SCP.

Local shell command group

Pre-connect

Enter a command to be executed in a separate process on the local machine prior to establishing the connection for the session.

Description group

Enter a session description to be displayed in the Connect window.
